Force and Torque Sensors

Force and Torque Sensors

1 min read

Introduction

Force and torque sensors mainly measure the external forces and torques on the end effector, when it touches the environment. They are a type of sensor in Robotic Sensors.

How it works

There are two main approaches:

  • Joint sensing: measure the force or torque at each joint, for example by motor current
  • Wrist sensing: put a force sensor between the arm and the tool

Types

  • Motor Current Monitoring
  • Strain Gauge Force Sensors
  • Wrist Force Sensors
  • Tool Transformation
